About Ladybug

Bernadette named our cool home on wheels and it’s a perfect name. Ladybug is a shiny 23-foot Airstream trailer. Not too big, not too small, but just right for our journey.  And except for the fact that she is silver and not red with black spots, Ladybug even looks like a ladybug.

But there’s more to ladybugs than just good looks. Did you know that in many cultures, ladybugs are thought to bring good luck?  We sure hope that proves true throughout our trip as luck is always a welcome addition on any journey.

Most people also think ladybugs are cute. They’re harmless, pretty and they eat their fair share of aphids, and other nasty plant destroying critters.  In fact, some really smart people estimate that one single ladybug can eat up to 5,000 insects in a lifetime! That sure is a big whack of bugs! Thanks ladybugs!

So, make sure you take great care when you spot a ladybug, whether landing softly on a nearby plant or rolling down the highway. Ladybugs are always special, cool to see and fun to boot.

Meet The Happy Campers

Meet Bernadette and Peter Kahnert. A couple of happy campers embarking  on a lifelong dream to travel in their RV trailer from sunny Oakville, Ontario across the continent to tip their toes in the Pacific Ocean,  share fun adventures, explore the great outdoors and meet extraordinary folks along the way.

Their actual journey began more than four decades back when Bernadette took pity on Peter and agreed to be his loving wife.  Life has been a blur ever since. During this time, they were blessed with four children, their spouses, and eight (soon to be nine) grand children, plus, boatloads of family and friends. A lot of very special people have been and continue to enrich their lives and the happy couple are grateful for each of them. And excited to celebrate more magical memories in the travels to come with Ladybug.

These Ladybug Chronicles are intended to be a fun way to share some of our adventures,  introduce readers to the wonders of RV travel, and maybe even make you smile every now and then. Preparing for this quest has taken months of careful planning (largely thanks to the extensive brain power  of the uber-talented, Bernadette). It will cover more than 10,000 kilometers (or over 6,000 miles if you are reading these Chronicles from South of the border), and, with fingers crossed, we will arrive  home safe and sound by mid-August.

Watch for regular updates of the Ladybug Chronicles. We’ll try to make it easy reading and do our best to include cool photos. Maybe they’ll help inspire you on your own journey of exploration. And we welcome any questions comments, suggestions. Just drop us a line and connect on our Ladybug email.

Oh, we almost forgot to introduce another key member of our team. Of course, we’re talking about Gordie, our eight-year-old Westie, (named after the great Gordie Howe). Gordie is a good-natured little guy, and we’re sure he’ll be the real star of the show to come.

Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement as this adventure has come alive. We’ll look forward to keeping in touch through Ladybug Chronicles.  And for those we love the most (you know who you are) no matter where we are, you’ll always be in our hearts.

Now, it’s time to hit the road, crank up those tunes, and get rolling with Ladybug! The adventure begins.
