Back on the Mainland

After another fun crossing on the ferry from Newfoundland, we were back on the mainland taking a few days to chill and re-stock our provisions. We knew there was no better place than hunkering down once again in beautiful Baddeck.

Not only was this an ideal stop to prepare for the next leg of our adventure, but it also marked the setting for one of our nicest lunches on our trip. That’s all because of good timing and good fortune to connect with old friends, Jackie and Todd, who had just started their own Cabot Trail adventure. We have always enjoyed getting together with these folks, but to think we were in Cape Breton at the same time, with a chance to meet up, was a dream.

We met at an amazing restaurant called the Freight Shed, nestled on the wharf overlooking Bras D’Or Lake.  There we savoured the best seafood chowder, amazing sandwiches, lobster rolls, delicious local craft beers, and a good two hours of non-stop laughs. It was a feast for the ages.  What a treat to be together in this picturesque place to celebrate good times and awesome friends. Such a treasured memory for all of us. Gordie too. Thank you Jackie and Todd!
